A brief history

Like the rest of Point Loma, Fleetridge sits within the broader Kumeyaay homeland and later developed as part of San Diego’s westward residential expansion.

The area grew mainly in the mid-20th century, when hillside and suburban-style homes became more common across Point Loma.

Its modern identity is tied to quiet residential living, proximity to San Diego Bay, and access to the amenities of Shelter Island and Liberty Station without being directly in those activity zones.

Fleetridge gets the benefit of coastal air while feeling more protected than the direct oceanfront neighborhoods. The bay-side location can feel calmer and less fog-heavy than Sunset Cliffs.

Most errands require a short drive, but the neighborhood is very convenient by car. Residents are close to Rosecrans, Liberty Station, Shelter Island, and the airport.

The social character is residential and settled. It feels like a family-oriented, long-term neighborhood rather than a visitor destination.
